Measuring Inches
Use this worksheet to practice measuring inches.
Why does the United States use inches to measure?
The US and a few other nations utilize imperial measurements. Imperial units include inches, feet, yards, pounds, and ounces. The American colonies employed it before gaining their independence from the British. The imperial system is still widely used in the United States for cultural and practical reasons. Efforts to switch the country over to the metric system have largely failed. Items made in the USA often use the Imperial (often called standard units) units of measure. Products imported from abroad commonly use the metric system. This is why I often need metric and standard tool sizes to repair things in the USA.
