Place Value Unit Form #2

Place Value Number Forms

In our other worksheet about place value we didn’t mention the different forms of a number. The normal way we write a number, like 827, is often called its standard form.  The expanded form of a number is when we take 827 and write it as 800 + 20 +7.  When we divide the number into unit form we would write out 8 hundreds, 2 tens, and 7 ones. This worksheet can be used to have practice both writing numbers in expanded form and unit form.

In second grade it is important for students to learn that there are many way to express a number.  For example another way to show 827 is not just in the expanded or unit form but also they could say 8 hundreds and 27 ones, or 82 tens and seven ones.
