Grade 3 Eureka Math Module 4 Lessons 5 - 8 Topic B

 Foundations for Understanding Area

Standards: 3.MD.C.5 | 3.MD.C.6 | 3.MD.C.7.a | 3.MD.C.7.b

These standard cover:

Concepts of Area Measurement

Builds on: Grade 2 Module 2, Grade 3 Module 1, Grade 3 Module 3

Continued on: Grade 4 Module 3, Grade 4 Module 7

Eureka Math Grade 3 Module 4 Topic A Lesson 5: Concepts of Area Measurement

Form rectangles by tiling with unit squares to make arrays.

Standards: 3.MD.C.5 | 3.MD.C.6 | 3.MD.C.7.a | 3.MD.C.7.b

Students build arrays with unit square tiles in Lesson 5.

For Example:  Students could be instructed that a rectangle has 12 tiles total and 3 tiles on one side. Students can skip-count by three to build one column of the array to represent 3 units, then repeat until they have 12 tiles. To complete the array, they press the rows of tiles together. Students find the area formula by counting threes.

Eureka Math Grade 3 Module 4 Topic A Lesson 6: Concepts of Area Measurement

Draw rows and columns to determine the area of a rectangle given an incomplete array.

Standards: 3.MD.C.5 | 3.MD.C.6 | 3.MD.C.7.a | 3.MD.C.7.b

Eureka Math Grade 3 Module 4 Topic A Lesson 7: Concepts of Area Measurement

Interpret area models to form rectangular arrays.

Standards: 3.MD.C.5 | 3.MD.C.6 | 3.MD.C.7.a | 3.MD.C.7.b

Eureka Math Grade 3 Module 4 Topic A Lesson 8: Concepts of Area Measurement

Find the area of a rectangle through multiplication of the side lengths.

Standards: 3.MD.C.5 | 3.MD.C.6 | 3.MD.C.7.a | 3.MD.C.7.b
