Graphing Data Pictograph Worksheet

Graphing Data - Pictographs

What is a pictograph?

Pictographs display data using drawings or symbols. Each image represents a data type or number. Pictographs simplify data interpretation by visualizing it.

You may use a pictograph to depict the number of apples and oranges sold at a farmer’s market in a week. If you sold ten apples on Monday, you could express data with ten apple symbols. You may use 15 orange symbols to indicate Tuesday’s 15 orange sales.

Pictographs can show amounts, frequencies, and categories. They are particularly effective for displaying data to persons unfamiliar with bar or line graphs.

Why should kids learn to create pictographs?

Kids can use pictographs to show and understand data in a
visual way. They can help kids understand and make sense of data more
meaningfully because they can see patterns and trends more quickly.

Using pictographs also helps kids practice important skills
like reading and understanding data, making comparisons, and coming to
conclusions based on evidence. These are important skills that will help you do
well in school and life.

Learning how to make pictographs can also help kids improve
their ability to think critically, solve problems, and communicate. They can
use these skills to analyze and present data in a clear and well-organized way.
This can help them in some situations, such as doing homework or showing a
project to their classmates.

Overall, learning to make and read pictographs is essential
to a child’s education and can help them develop valuable skills.
